Explain the premise of Dino Crisis to someone unaware of it, and chances are they’d be on board. Imagine Resident Evil, but instead of zombies you were facing off against dinosaurs, and you’re almost already there. Shinji Mikami struck gold with Resident Evil, but Dino Crisis never really took off in the same way for him, even though it would end up getting multiple sequels. With the continued resurgence Capcom has seen with the remakes of Resident Evil, one would think that a revisit to Dino Crisis would be a perfect opportunity to gauge interest in the series. It’s a series that is able to handle its wildly outrageous premise in a way that still makes it incredibly fun to this day, and one that we hope makes a return

#7 Dino Crisis

Dino Crisis is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom originally for the PlayStation console in 1999. It is the first installment in the Dino Crisis series and was developed by the same team behind Capcom’s Resident Evil series, including director Shinji Mikami, and shares many similarities with it. The story follows Regina, a special operations agent sent with a team to investigate a secluded island research facility. Finding the place overrun with dinosaurs, Regina must fight through the facility to discover its secrets and ultimately escape alive with her team.
Instead of the pre-rendered backgrounds of the Resident Evil games that preceded it, Dino Crisis uses an original real-time engine with 3D environments. Gameplay features traditional survival horror mechanics including action and puzzles, and it was developed to have more consistent visceral terror with the dinosaurs being quick, intelligent, and violent.
Fan including myself have been asking for a remake for this PlayStation classic for sometime. Though Capcom does have the right sadly doesn’t seem a remake is happening at this time. However one can hope as Capcom gave us the RE2 and RE3 remake treatments. We can only hope one day we are back as Regina and taking down some dinosaurs.

f you like the survival horror stylings of Resident Evil auteur Shinji Mikami but aren’t into zombies, Capcom still has you covered. Much of the same team — including Mikami himself — also developed Dino Crisis, a survival horror game that happens to be set in a secret island research facility. As the name suggests, you encounter genetically-revived dinosaurs running rampant. While this sounds remarkably similar to the Jurassic Park films, the similarities end with the basic premise. Dino Crisis takes a serious and notable departure from the arguably hokey premise of JP in many ways.


Even though Dino Crisis and Resident Evil are both survival games, Capcom presents Dino Crisis as a “Panic Horror” game, giving it a higher danger rating. They argue that Resident Evil’s zombies are less threatening than the clever, speedy, and violent dinosaurs. Dino Crisis boasts commendable, real-time 3D backgrounds, in contrast to the pre-rendered gamescapes of its ancestors. This background, combined with artistic still camera angles, amps up the game’s immersion and interactivity.


It’s not as horrifying or as culturally famous as Resident Evil, but Dino Crisis has many perks. Many gamers think it is superior to Resident Evil in many different ways, and we agree that it’s intense, fun, and well-paced. Capcom has created many awesome heroes, and they don't all fight zombies. Appearing in the first two "Dino Crisis" games, Regina is a tough-as-nails special operative who goes up against dinosaurs and lives to talk about it. Sharp, funny, and talented with a pistol, Regina keeps her cool in situations that would reduce most people to blubbering messes. Regina's personality goes beyond that of just a confident soldier, as she can be empathetic and cynical depending on the circumstances. As an example of her effortless badassery, Regina comes face to face with a dinosaur that makes the T-Rex look puny and the operative still reacts with a quip.

That credit goes to Dino Crisis 2, a forgotten action-horror classic for the original PlayStation that truly changed the concept of horror survival. While its predecessor attempted to establish itself as a horror title in its own right, the sequel experimented with a formula that would be used again for Resident Evil 4. Looking back, its time for this PlayStation classic to receive the credit it deserves.


Dino Crisis 2 was a game ahead of its time that has been forgotten – only old school gamers and true horror fans remember it. While most will continue to praise Resident Evil 4 for what it achieved, the gaming community should acknowledge that Dino Crisis 2 set the foundations for recreating the horror genre. 4. Dino Crisis​

Another game he helped make was 1999’s Dino Crisis, which followed the formula of the RE series, but this time it has dinosaurs instead of zombies.

While the shift to dinosaurs might be a weird thing at first, you begin to realize that you wished that you were dealing with slow walking zombies in the first place. The dinosaurs are quick and relentless, making hiding or escaping from them even more difficult. Combine that with a creepy atmosphere and you have one of the best horror games of the decade.

You and your team go in to investigate a research facility, but during the recon mission, a “Dino Crisis” erupts! Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? But after the Jurassic Park films were being released, fans were hoping to find a game that involved the same premise, just more terrifying.
