You people are delusional! This takes many, many things away from the XB1's Next Gen capabilities. It's just like the PS4 now; a beefed up version of its previous self. This is NOT great news, because it is a step backwards. Consumers complain, complain, complain without doing any research, and hopping on the bandwagon. Microsoft's mistake was in properly articulating all it had to offer, and stressing on the positives. Instead, they sat on their asses and their PR was piss-poor.
My post on another game site:
"All this talk of Microsoft being anti-consumer is stupid.
No, their policies were not anti-consumer:
- One-time installs
- Access to games from any Xbox One console, even disc-based games
- Share your library with 10 people, get access to theirs, again from any Xbox One console, including disc-based games
- Xbox Live Gold status for everyone on a console as long as one account is subscribed (this may stay though).
- IIRC they suggested there would be a way to lend games digital
The backlash was from gamers who let fear over rational ensue them and the sensationalized reporting of the tech and game media.
The 24 hour check (which only took a few kilobytes Don said) was their way of supporting disc-based gaming. If I bought a disc, and installed it on the system, I could have just given that disc to someone else, they can do the same, and they can give it to someone else, etc. That's essentially piracy. People do not understand what it means to purchase something. If you purchase something (music, movie, game) you do not own it. You own an individual copy of it, which gives you an automatic license/right to listen, view or play it. The copyright isn't yours to do with it whatever you want, you do not fully own it. If you did, every time it was sold, the money would go to you and not the creators. When you sell, or trade that disc-game, you relinquish your rights to play the game. It's the same with the XB1. They had to implement something to ensure people weren't running around copying games to their HDDs and then selling them off or giving the disc away for others to do the same. The check is to make sure this doesn't happen. I don't get people, people complained about only being able to sell/trade once... like it's any different with a disc. You can only sell/trade your disc 1 time. People say used games weren't allowed, which wasn't true! Used games were allowed. The only difference was, this time all of the money wasn't going into Gamestop or Gamefly's pockets, who, btw don't make any of the games we play. Instead, Microsoft decided to put some of that money back into developer's pockets, back into Remedy's pockets, which seemed pretty fair to me. I just don't get people. Smh
Now, all of those features of sharing my games with 10 people from any console they access, having access to 10 people's entire game library, no more disc-switching, potentially cheaper games in the future (especially that developers will be making back some money from used games, and no more disc-pressing/printing), no more worrying about damaged discs, no worrying about losing discs, accessing my ENTIRE game library from any Xbox One without carrying around stacks of discs...all of those features; gone! Because of a few unthinking, short-sighted, emotional, misinformed idiots. What Microsoft should have done was educate the gamers fully on what it is they're offering, so they can make a proper, well-informed decision. So much misinformation and lies were perpetuated about the XB1 and Microsoft sat on their asses. Screw it! Back to this stupid, archaic model. Thanks a lot folks, your short-sightedness will take us far.
Oh snap, I now realised seamless switching between games and apps are now gone too! F@%K! I hate stupid people with internet access. All the damn internet access in the world...access to the information super highway, and nobody took the time out to properly research what the real facts were. Game and tech sites only ran with the few negatives, and sensationalized it. And you know what's funny, some of these very same sites now are slamming Microsoft for this! I hate this f***k!ng shit! Some of the things that truly made the XB1 a Next-Gen console, are gone. Now, like the PS4, it's just a beefed up version of its previous self; Xbox 360 2.0. Smfh! Thanks a lot guys, thanks a-f**king-lot!"
