While this sounds like a prehistoric reskin of Mikami’s previous work, the director actually made a conscious effort to update the RE formula with his new project, describing Dino Crisis as a “panic horror” experience rather than traditional survival horror and comparing the game to a terrifying roller coaster ride due to its faster pace. DC was also the first of Capcom’s horror titles to incorporate real-time 3D graphics into its environments, allowing for more dynamic camera angles and improved visual cohesion.
Capcom is undoubtedly best known in the survival-horror genre through the landmark Resident Evilseries, but in the '90s, the publisher/developer made another bold venture. Dino Crisis was a horror title that effectively combined Resident Evil with the Jurassic Parkfranchise, and it's been virtually untouched since the PS1.
Mechanically, Dino Crisis plays out similarly to the aforementioned zombie-ridden series, but it's rather disappointing seeing the game ignored for so long. Given the success of the studio's recent string of Resident Evil remakes, the foundation is practically there and begging for a Dino Crisis reinvention on PS5, especially in the scope of the RE2 remake.
