Joystiq هم impression اش اومد.

Clouds dash by as a flying vehicle zooms ahead. Armored soldiers are yelling frantically, as the chaotic sounds of a war zone fill the jam-packed auditorium. Sound familiar? It's meant to be. The opening seconds of the new Killzone presentation bring to life the infamous E3 trailer from 2005-only this time, it's in real-time.

Certainly, the question on everyone's mind is: does it look as good as the notorious it's-not-CG-we-swear trailer from 2005? In many ways, the visual fidelity of the updated presentation matches the highly polished look of the debut trailer. Beautiful volumetric smoke filled the screen, and the characters were alive with animation. However, unlike the deceptive E3 presentation of yore, this one had an aura of believability. A critical eye could note a few rough jagged edges, and textures that are a far cry away from Hollywood renders. The floor textures were no short of terrible. The facial animation system in Were we a little disappointed to notice polygons and texture work so quickly? Certainly. In spite of all the flaws within the game, there's no denying that Killzone 2 provides a visual feast that effectively demonstrates the technical prowess of the PlayStation 3.

The presentation continues with a Helghast that gets burned alive, much to the delight of this blogger. Although the fire didn't look particularly "next-gen," the way it interacted with the flailing body was intensely lifelike. Action connoisseurs would certainly be impressed by the first few non-interactive moments of the presentation, with innumerable explosions that would make Michael Bay jealous.

As the airship landed, we were delighted to see the presentation transition to gameplay seamlessly. The onscreen player moves down a passage, with rows of barricades, and dozens of soldiers being torn apart by Helghast fire. Even if the finer details of the game's visuals couldn't live up to the expectations created by the original E3 trailer, the actual gameplay maintained much of the same intensity. The senses become easily overwhelmed by an apocalyptic feast of aural and visual information: comrades fall, in battle, under a hailstorm of bullets and explosions. The director of the game noted Guerilla's team to create a "hostile theatre of war." They've undeniably succeeded in that.

اینم یه Q&A :
http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803249p1.html

How big is the team currently at Guerrilla?

135 people

Please describe the work atmosphere at Guerrilla.

It's a very creative environment, with a great international workforce. We have over 20 different nationalities inside the studio.

What is the premise of Killzone 2?

It's 2 years later and the ISA are invading the Helghast home planet of Helghan. The goal is to capture the Helghast leader and bring the war machine to a halt.

What inspired the team to come up with the Killzone world?

We have a great number of team members who love First Person Shooters and we wanted to have elements of the great conflicts of the 20th century depicted in the Killzone franchise.

What does the PS3 allow you to do with development of Killzone 2 that you have not been able to do before?

For us, we need a great deal of processing power. The PS3 really allows us to build Killzone 2 on a grand scale with a level of detail that is truly eye-catching. To give you an example, our character models on screen use the same amount of polygons as an entire level of Killzone on PS2.

How is the Killzone franchise different from other first-person shooters and what makes it unique?

What has always made Killzone unique is it's about a realistic influence with a twist. We take inspiration from conflicts of the 20th century, but we don't set the game on Earth or use historical reference for location or setting.

What are some of the key impressions you want to make with gamers after seeing Killzone 2?

We want people who see the game to say "Wow! What a rush!" We hope that they see the level of detail, intensity, and chaos we have put into building the game and are really excited to see and hear their reactions.

Did any military personnel or other professional advisors help with the design of Killzone 2?

Not military, but we did work with Hollywood special effects people and weapon experts from a variety of fields. We've captured things like muzzle flashes, reloads, and how a weapon feels and reacts in your hand. We want it to be as realistic as possible.

What can players expect to see in terms of new environments and will they be interactive?

Killzone 2 is a hostile theater of war, with a gritty look to the environments that players will find are highly dynamic and destructible. We're introducing a completely new planet so there are numerous environments that will be unique in the game.

In terms of A.I., what changes/improvements are you seeing and what do you hope to accomplish by the time the game ships?

We are bringing very dynamic environments and the AI must deal with the nuances in each by intelligently navigating and fighting through the world. Enemies will also be able to see at night with their goggles so we wanted to make their actions accurate even in darkness.

How does the team feel about the current progress of the game when everyone has been so focused on the E3 2005 target video?

The level we showed at our event is a very important milestone for the team since this is the first anyone has seen of the game. We are very proud of the game's progress to date and look forward to having more available for you all soon

kotaku:

I think Killzone 2 is probably the most impressive game I've seen so far at E3. Granted it's early in the show, but I think the game has a good chance to retaining that title.

The game's graphics, easily one of its most scrutinized elements, are coming together in spectacular fashion. The characters models were high poly and offered sharp detail and promising animation, with a lot of really nice gun movement for reloading and aiming. The environment was equally sharp with an impressive sense of scale and interactivity. As we saw in the GDC teaser for the game, you can blow the hell out of a variety of objects in the game, with damage varying on what they're made out of. However, what sold us on the visuals in the game were things like the stellar lighting, which was shown off in a variety of ways. We saw subtle touches such as the heat glow given off of metal when it's shot at to the way muzzle flashes from you and your enemies light up the areas around you. The lightning arcs which lit up the sky in the game managed to be both dramatic and subtle with light and shadow dancing around in dramatic fashion. Some of the explosions, especially the one that ended the demo, look really great. Other effects, like the use of depth of field to give a slight blur to the weapon in your hands while the distance remains razor sharp, or the various animations shown by the other troops, help set Killzone 2 apart from other shooters. Though the game was still a work in progress, we were impressed by how well the level ran, despite the frenetic battle taking place.

Based on what we've seen Killzone 2 seems poised to live up to the lofty promise of its debut on the PS3. The gameplay looks solid and immersive, with some very cool bits of polish in the form of animation, physics, and interactivity that enhanced the familiar first person action in some interesting ways. The visuals in what we've seen are extremely impressive and rank among the best we've seen on the hardware to date. Aside from the obligatory high poly models and vast environments which we frankly expect out of a PlayStation 3 game, Killzone 2's lighting and particle systems are looking great. Finally the game's audio, and the awesome kick it gives to all the action, is headed in a positive direction that should give Killzone 2 a cool, immersive vibe. Does this mean the game is the be all and end all of first person shooters? Given that development is ongoing it's tough to make that call at the moment. What we will say though is that Guerilla appears to be doing a lot of things right in Killzone 2. We're anxious to get our hands on a playable version of the game and see how it all handles ourselves, but what we've seen makes us think development is going well.
