God Hand

God Hand is one of my favorite games of all time. It is one of the most demanding action games you’ll ever play. This will be your experience. The first 10 minutes or so, you’ll wonder why you ever spent 19.99 on such a clearly terrible game. After that, you’ll experience a combination of disbelief at how hard the game is and euphoria when you finally dispatch a small group of enemies. Then you’ll start to notice interesting details, like

  • Gene’s animation is actually pretty stellar.
  • The enemies say really weird and funny things sometimes.
  • When the game asks me to rapidly hit a button to knee a guy in the face over and over, it really does respond to the speed at which I mash said button, with no apparent limit to how fast it will animate.
  • The timing and combos are actually really technical and I have to pay SO MUCH attention to everything.
  • I can pick stuff up and smash people with it, and it feels really good.
  • Oh my god, the cutscenes are hilarious.

At some point you’ll hit a stride, where you’re blazing from one enemy to the next, attacking eah one like an enraged gorilla. Your brain will be in overdrive, thinking EVERYTHING MUST DIE RIGHT THIS SECOND. You will fail. Over and over. This will only make your conviction stronger and the euphoria from victory even more potent. Anyone watching you play at this point will be a little concerned with the new, murderous glint in your eye.

This is God Hand. One of the greatest games ever made.

4 underrated games that I love and you might like

2- Vanquish

Vanquish Lets Players Slide Around Everywhere

Vanquish is an unforgettable experience, and one of those games that remind people why everyone wanted Platinum to develop everything in the early 2010s. In Vanquish, the protagonist Sam Gideon is wearing an experimental suit of armor that allows him to charge into the battlefield and take on armies on their own.

The suit comes with a ton of experimental weapons, but the one used the most are the boosters that let the player slide around the battlefield at will. Combine the sliding technique with the ability to slow down time around Sam, and Vanquish has some of the most cinematic-looking fight scenes ever.

4- Vanquish

Vanquish might be the most movement-obsessed shooter on this list. It begs you to dash, jump, flip and slide in the way only a space soldier with a robot suit could. Add in bullet time mechanics, and you have a uniquely extreme experience. As well as Matrix-style slow motion acrobatics, Vanquish also offers a feeling of all-out war, with dozens of soldiers and robots fighting on the same battlefield as you

God Hand

The year 2006 saw the release of one of the best beat’ em ups ever created in the history of gaming. Shinji Mikami and his crew at Clover Studios gave in to their imagination and went on to create pretty much a peerless title.

God Hand sees you controlling Gene who was given a powerful arm known as the God Hand. He has to stop a group of villains who are plotting to resurrect the Demon King Angra who has once been exiled from earth never to return. The gameplay is played from the third-person perspective where the player goes through stages. As you progress, you unlock new moves and upgrade your stats. Just bear in mind that the game gets challenging the further you dive deep into it. For fans of beat ’em ups, God Hand is a recommended game.

3. Bayonetta | PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Windows, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One

From the beautiful mind that brought us the very first Devil May Cry, we have another ground-breaking masterpiece in the form of Bayonetta. Generally-speaking, the game is about female Dante - oh, I mean Bayonetta - who is an Umbran witch with no recollection of her past. She then meets a little girl named Cereza whom she needs to take back to where she came from. Throughout the game, she meets different Umbran witches and “angels” who are trying to subdue her once again. She does well to kick their butts in true, seductive witch fashion.

Let’s get this right out of the way. This is one of the best games ever to be made. It’s such a fresh take on the hack-and-slash genre with all of the best elements injected into it. The combat is fast, fun, and furious. You have Bayonetta dishing out damage from all parts of her body - from her legs to her hair. It’s a concept that I’m here to just enjoy and completely eat up.

This game is extremely fun because the theme and story is completely crazy - and that’s what makes it even better. You have this beautiful witch that uses her hair as a weapon to summon a demon known as Madama Butterfly. This creates interesting, unique combos that have a completely earth-shattering visual (no pun intended).

It’s a great game to pick up when you just want a feel good game with a crazy-strong female lead.

1. Alruna

Alruna’s biggest asset is its charge ability. Wrapping around small or medium-sized enemies, Bayonetta slams them down near her. This makes for a great and safe way to close the distance before following up with melee combos. Just make sure witch time is active against the larger foes.

Vanquish -1

The third-person action game Vanquish was directed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil and God Hand fame, but it is quite a departure from many of the games he had previously worked on. Developed by Platinum Games, Vanquish originally launched for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, for PC in 2017, with a remastered version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One just three years later in 2020.

Set on a future Earth where countries are fighting over dwindling resources, playing as character Sam Gideon, you use an augmented reaction suit that enhances Sam's reflexes and allows him to rapidly evade and slide to avoid incoming gunfire.
