This Gen Gaming:Once you have selected the character of your choice, the matter of fighting ‘style’ is introduced. The previously mentioned apparel that in previous iterations of the franchise was an empty shell and a matter of taste (or its lack), now becomes another difficult decision for you to make.
While Mortal Kombat is an impressive game in terms of its design and execution, it is also has its flaws. Right from the very beginning you will notice that Mortal Kombat X is not a particularly good-looking game. It’s not an absolute disaster, but the change in quality of textures can be tremendous, and at times takes away from the overall experience.
Another factor that has a negative impact on the game, is the similarity between some characters. Not to spoil the game completely, I will only state that some characters only differ from one another with their appearance, and visualization of their moves.
To summarize it has to be stated that Mortal Kombat X is not a perfect game. It’s not a 10, neither a 9, however, the superior display of NetherRealm Studio proves that the ‘king’ is back and he is here to stay, as it is difficult to imagine for any game of the genre to be as spectacular. In a way it is a rejuvenation of the Mortal Kombat of the past, but the modern technology have only further improved it, and allows us to indulge ourselves in the magnificent creation that Mortal Kombat X is.
Mortal Kombat X is another solid entry into the Mortal Kombat series, I thought it would be hard to top Mortal Kombat 9 but Neatherrealm Studio’s proved me wrong with this excellent game. The story mode is good, the amount of content will keep you coming back for months, the finishing moves are as brutal as ever! It’s everything I wanted Mortal Kombat X to be and then some. If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat then this is the easiest purchase of the year for you, if you aren’t a fan of fighting games then I’d still recommend it because of how fun the game is. To sum this all up… Go buy Mortal Kombat X on Tuesday you won’t be disappointed.
+Fun gameplay
+Amount of content (Living Towers, Faction War, Story Mode, Krypt, additional Towers and minigames)
+Finishing moves are as brutal as ever
-Lack of arenas

PolygonThe presentation is great with nice slick UI and a good movie-like campaign, although the story could have been better, the graphics are nice and crisp that looks noticeably better than the previous title, and the gameplay is as great if not better with bloody brutality still being horribly awesome, with satisfying impacts from various attacks. A lot of content and replayability for solo play or offline / online multiplayer, more so if you’re connected. Overall Mortal Kombat X is a great fighting game worthy of the title and prince [sic] point, one that will keep you busy and satisfied until the next one comes out
Video GamerMortal Kombat X is friendly both to casual players who want to experience its rich suite of single-player content and knock around with some friends, but deep enough for competitive players who want to plumb its roster and variations. It's a robust, feature-rich competitive fighting game that hones what's worked for NetherRealm Studios in past games, and even shows hints of restraint and maturity amidst the gory hyper-violence. Paired with an ambitious online meta-game, Mortal Kombat X is one of the best fighting games in the series
Euro GamerOverall, however, Mortal Kombat X is the most entertaining fighting game on next-gen. It’s bonkers in the best possible way, serving up some eye-watering kills (Cassie Cage’s X-Ray move will make every man wince, every time) and entertaining matches that don’t require great skill to create. Depth lies in learning each character as the story introduces them, which forms a springboard to use them in other modes that surround it. Story mode is engaging enough to keep you plodding through in short bursts, the Krypt offers content that will make you want to earn the Koins to unlock everything, and all other modes change up the combat enough to keep you interested. This is the best Mortal Kombat game, and also the most hilariously brutal
Game InformerMortal Kombat X's dumbly enjoyable story puts other fighting games to shame
Games RadarMortal Kombat X is a fantastic successor in every sense. The mechanics may be similar to 2011’s strong release, but with so many new modes and features permeating every part of the experience, it’s a worthy upgrade. Mortal Kombat X is more than the continuation of NetherRealm’s successful vision for the franchise; it’s one of the best fighting games in years.

To me, personally, making a better fighting game seems like a daunting task. Especially if you've been making them for two decades. At this point it has to go beyond simply adding more characters and a few new modes, and NetherRealm delivered on all fronts. They simultaneously re-invented themselves while keeping the core of the Kombat in tact, and that's an impressive feat
Fast, fluid, bloody, disgusting and yet so beautiful. It's an amazing successor to the 2011 title that one-ups it in nearly every way. Diverse characters, plenty of modes and a robust suite of multiplayer options make it a must for fans of Kombat

US GamerPersonally I play Mortal Kombat for the competitive side, I love being able to fight my friends in a more over the top and aggressive games. We can all laugh and bond as I have your guts for garters, which MKX does excruciatingly well. The combat is a vast improvement from MK9 and it just looks brilliant while you are fighting. The interactables are a first for the MK series but NRS have previously tested the waters with Injustice and have managed to tweak these interactive environments to one off uses that can be used to evade opponents or batter them to a pulp. It is the kind of game a casual player can invest hundreds of hours in without ever wanting to be competitive, and competitive players can lose themselves in the vast array of options the cast presents as the perfect every match up. The online qualms I could find were occasional visual bugs that just looked off when performing fatalities and a little delay when preforming quick time events. There is a reason why Mortal Kombat is so popular and this is definitely the best MK game I have played in years
Pros
- Great Cast
- Brilliant Story
- Stunning Fights
Cons
- Some Visual Bugs
- No Smoke

Hardcore GamerIf you liked Mortal Kombat IX, I think you'll like X. It's in many ways the same game, albeit bolstered by lessons NetherRealm learned in both MK9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us. The Story Mode is smoother, the interface is cleaner, the action and animations are more fluid
The real challenge going forward will be seeing how the inevitable sequel handles an ever-shrinking roster of classic characters. Can the game bear losing more fan favorites? Are the new characters strong enough to prop up an entire game on their own
But that's a problem for the future. For now, Mortal Kombat X is a near-perfect evolution of what we had in MK9, retaining enough of the nostalgia and strong technical execution that made the game special while also pushing the Mortal Kombat series forward
Pros
- Roster additions almost universally great to play
- Streamlined, more fluid story mode
Cons
- Final boss almost too easy after build-up
- I'll miss you forever, Noob Saibot
Shack News2011s Mortal Kombat reinvigorated the franchise by taking it back to its roots, retelling the story with a slight variation. Mortal Kombat X goes a step further and wades into uncharted territory with great results. Not only is this the highest quality story NetherRealm has ever put together, it’s perhaps the best fighting game story ever. Character Variations aren’t the game-changer NetherRealm was hoping for, but do little to detract from how good the core gameplay mechanics already are. Deep enough to attract competitive players, yet simple enough for newcomers to pick up and play, there’s no denying that Mortal Kombat X has a lot of meaningful kontent. Mortal Kombat X is not only a great Mortal Kombat game, it’s simply a great game

Hobby ConsolasDespite the extreme and often cringe-worthy violence, Mortal Kombat X is quite beautiful in its own way; like visiting a museum exhibit on the human body and all the ways it can be destroyed. And like a museum, there’s plenty to see and do here, including a surprisingly intimate story, one-on-one battles, endless challenges, and a competitive, socially-connected metagame.
Hardcore GamerBloody, brutal, "komplete", spectacular ... If you like fighting games, don´t miss Mortal Kombat X.
The EscapistNot only is this the highest quality story NetherRealm has ever put together, it’s perhaps the best fighting game story ever. Character Variations aren’t the game-changer NetherRealm was hoping for, but do little to detract from how good the core gameplay mechanics already are.
Multiplayer.ItMortal Kombat X offers the best story mode I've ever personally seen in a fighting game. Its cohesive plot and extended cinematics makes you feel much more like a participant in a film than a player on the couch. The fighting is frantic, fluid, and dynamic, with the glorious goriness of the X-Ray moves often turning the tides of battle.
MeristationThe new chapter continues the work started with the previous reboot of the saga. This is a marvelous and violent beat-em’up.
LaPS4Mortal Kombat X has solid mechanics and is a good evolution in NeterRealm System. Rich in content and good visuals, it's the first serious challenger among Next Generation fighting games.
Spazio GamesMortal Kombat X offers content enough to satisfy the most exquisite gamers, as well as many game modes, both for those who like to play solo as well as online or local multiplayer lovers. Not every new character has the old ones' charisma, but the work of NetherRealm Studios is absolutely remarkable.
EveryEye.ItIntuitive, faster than in the past and enriched by the brilliant idea of the 3 styles, Mortal Kombat X remains well-anchored to the foundation laid by Netherealm, but manages to improve them and to remain one of the most spectacular and exciting fighting games.
3D JuegosQuotation forthcoming.
Metro Game CentralAnother example of how to upgrade an already excellent game (fighting in this very case) with neat ideas, game modes, actions and game modes. Mortal Kombat X is one of the best beat ́em ups out there.
Games Village.ItThe best new Mortal Kombat for years, with a fighting game experience that’s as generous with the content as it is with the gore.
AtomixIf we had just one word to describe the new Mortal Kombat, that would be "excessive". The violence is always over the top (sometimes even a little bit too much so), and the various game modes and unlockables will keep you busy for quite a long time. A must-have for all the kombatants out there.
Digitally DownloadedNetherRealm and Warner have scored a hit. It has some flaws, especially with the story and concept. But it's a provocative and surprisingly deep game that offers many options to have fun.
Game Blog.FrIt’s not perfect and has some thematic inconsistencies that let it down, but it is a gorily beautiful game, and as far as I’m aware, it’s the first one to have exploding testicles.
Vandal OnlineDespite some online issues (mainly a lack of matchmaking's optimization and long waits between fights) and a too user-friendly X-Ray, this Mortal Kombat managed to deliver deep and rich gameplay. The whole experience is really worth a try. Especially the online features.
Gaming AgeIt has some aspects we'd like to see improved (the netcode, extra modes...), but apart from this, it's the best episode of the franchise. Fun and brutal, as it should be.
DestructoidWith not much other competition out there at the moment, and a few solid years of hype behind the game, Mortal Kombat X couldn't have been released at a better time. With a new generation of kombatants, updated and refined gameplay, and enough content to keep players busy for weeks, fighting game fans won't be disappointed.
Euro Gamer ItalyMortal Kombat X's impact isn't as explosive as 2011, but it's well polished and a worthy successor.
A great fighting game with a good number of new mechanics. The addiction of the stamina system, along with the three fighting styles for each character, have improved the original gameplay.
