As previously mentioned, The Evil Within is packed with symbolism when it comes to the enemies the player faces off against.
Consequently, the game's secondary antagonist, an amorphic beast of claws and hair known as Laura, is more than just a throwaway monster inspired by classic Japanese horror films. Once again, the reasoning behind the design goes back to Ruvik's childhood, with the villain conjuring a vengeful version of his sister to seek revenge for her unjust killing.
The boss' constant screaming is a manifestation of Ruvik's last memory of her as she burned to death, while her patchy, melted skin and vulnerability to fire clearly reflects her untimely demise.
However, the newly grotesque and virtually invincible body Laura now sports is supposed to reflect the strength that Ruvik always saw in his sister, functioning as his own sick way of allowing her to pursue the revenge she deserves.
#3 The Evil Within Series
Even in the horror genre, there are horror titles, and then…there are HORROR titles. The Evil Within Series is meant to be the latter, as the game puts you into a set of places that are meant to scare you as you play it, and for most, it definitely did that.
You play as Sebastian Castellanos, a man who is taken to a nightmare dimension full of traps, dangers, and evil, and he must find a way to both survive and escape it. The choices you make along the way will affect the world around you, and possibly make it even more dangerous.
There are only two games within this series, but that’ll be enough to make you scared no doubt.

8. The Evil Within (2014)
Directed by Shinji Mikami – of Resident Evil fame – The Evil Within wastes no time in laying on the oppressive atmosphere and gory imagery in The Evil Within, with an opening sequence that sees your character attempting to flee from a terrifying, chainsaw-wielding psychopath who’s already dismembered lots of people; we know this because body parts are everywhere!
This third person, narrative-led title is full of jump scares, punishing combat and lashings of gore; it goes to some seriously crazy places in the story, with some incredibly unsettling imagery that’ll stay with you for a long time after the credits roll.

The Evil Within 2
The Evil Within 2, and the first Evil Within game, were made by the original creator of RE4 and RE2, Shinji Mikami. His idea was to make a game like Resident Evil that put the ‘horror’ back in survival horror during a time when games like Resident Evil 5 and 6 seemingly stripped this away from the series.
The game is set in an open-world environment (unlike the much more linear original game) and sees a detective called Sebastian trapped in a literal nightmare world. His greatest fears, and the fears of the other survivors are made manifest, which creates some truly scary moments.

#3 The Evil Within 2
If you already own The Evil Within 2, changing to first-person is as simple as flipping a switch in the menu…literally! You’ll be able to change this setting at any point so you can experience the game however you’d like whenever you’d like. First-person mode was added to The Evil Within 2 back in 2018 and gives the game an fun new way to play the game by offering a very different experience than the traditional gameplay.
