Metro GameCentral: 6/10
It’s an improvement on the last game but as a franchise Just Cause is still squandering the majority of its potential with its banal mission design and dull storytelling.

Cheat Code Central: 7/10
Other than laughter and the occasional satisfaction of seeing a crazy plan come together, Just Cause 4 doesn’t illicit much of an emotional response. It’s ugly, monotone, and almost feels incomplete. Even some of the character animations look lazy, as though the characters themselves are saving their energy for something. The game isn’t without its charm, certainly, but that charm doesn’t amount to much when it is marred by a plethora of other issues. Just Cause 4 approaches its potential, but doesn’t quite seize it. Considering how well the game performs at its peak, that is a real shame.

PlayStation Universe: 7.5/10
Just Cause 4 is an enjoyable ride with a memorable and exciting campaign, full of thrilling gameplay moments. However, the rest of the game is a compilation of outdated mission design and poor technical performance. My advice: stick to the campaign for a fun fifteen hours and forget about everything else.

Hobby Consolas: 8/10
Just Cause 4 feels old in its mechanics, but it is incredibly fun to play. The extreme climate effects, the hook, the parachute and the flying suit allow us to develop some crazy combat maneuvers.

App Trigger: 3.5/10
Just Cause 4 has more of the same destruction and mayhem the series is known for, but the game has a litany of technical issues and empty mechanics that make it impossible to recommend.

Atomix: 7/10
Just Cause 4 it's a very entertaining game thanks to its nature and concept, but fails to deliver a new entry with major improvements as fans and gaming market may expect.

Gamer.nl: 4/10

Videogamer: 6/10
Just Cause 4's thrills give way to repetition and a dull mission structure, but it's a ridiculous roller coaster while in full swing.

Worth Playing: 7/10
For fans of the series, Just Cause 4 ends up being one of those virtually critic-proof titles. The story is forgettable, and the repetitive mission types can feel like a chore. With that said, the chaos that all of your tools can cause creates a type of destructive madness that few other games can replicate, and the fun springing from that anarchy is undeniable. It isn't a masterpiece by any means, and it could certainly stand to be improved in the area of graphical presentation, but the moment you get your hands on the game, you might not care so long as there's something you can blow up.

GamingBolt: 9/10
Just Cause 4 is a title that is worth experiencing for anyone who just wants to have a good time watching explosions and flying around a beautiful world.

Push Square: 6/10
Just Cause 4's traversal system can be wonderfully entertaining, and the chaotic, explosion-sim physics in play are frequently exhilarating, but they're manacled to a game that has absolutely no idea how best to use them. What's the point in giving players an array of tools that lets them cause wanton destruction on a gargantuan scale, and then designing a campaign full of drab, copy-pasted missions that barely require you to use them? It's a bit like getting the coolest BMX on the market for Christmas, but then your Mum tells you you're only allowed to ride it around the garden where she can keep an eye on you. Cheers, Mum.

PlayStation LifeStyle: 7/10
Just Cause 4 is just a better Just Cause 3, and that's not a bad thing, but it feels that many elements were added just 'cause rather than seeking to revolutionize Rico Rodriguez's many revolutions. New weather elements hardly play into the moment to moment gameplay, even if they make for some pretty epic moments during a few campaign missions. It's a physics playground of the highest order, but rarely does enough with the clever mechanics in it's repetitive mission structure, whether it's the bland challenges scattered on the map or the increasingly dull and overly long Region Strikes. Just Cause 4 has some great ideas, massive explosions, and much needed improvements over the last game, but it can't quite step out of the shadow of its own idea that pure and utter chaos should be the headliner, making the massive open world feel less compelling and more, well, just 'cause.

GamerSky: 7/10
Just Cause 4 is a wild and outrageous open-world game, and there are a lot of goofy and funny moments that worth cherish. But compared with its prequel, Just Cause 4 barely changed in terms of gameplay.

XGN: 8/10
Just Cause 4 is the perfect example of what Just Cause is. The action is over-the-top and amazing, but the story is really thin and missions get repetitive. If you love the explosive gameplay however, you are set for a perfect vacation.

The Digital Fix: 8/10
While it misses some of the best features from its predecessors, Just Cause 4 is a captivatingly fun experience, with enough new mechanics to be a staple for action fans.

Game Over Online: 8/10
Overall, Just Cause 4 is a fairly big improvement as an experience compared to the third entry. It doesn’t quite reach the heights of the second, which felt like the franchise’s peak at the time and has remained so to this day. This game lacks the thrill of “wow, the series is truly finding itself” – akin to Saints Row the Third doing that for the Saints Row games, and while it is better than the third entry, that’s a fairly low bar to fly over given how many issues plagued the console versions of the game. It performs a lot better, at the expense of the core graphics suffering a bit. The core gunplay and frantic action are better now than before though, but something still feels missing in the overall experience.

Wccftech: 6.5/10
Just Cause 4 delivers a truly astounding open world that lacks much to do beyond “blow up more gas tanks.” A shallow story, an absence of interesting NPCs, and frustrating mission design make for an uninvolving game that sometimes feels like a job to play. There is fun to be had in Just Cause 4, but only if you stage a revolution against what the game wants you to do.

7/10: JeuxActu
While Just Cause 4 still offers a very good sandbox, and instant fun with non-stop action, the game suffers from poor visuals, awful cinematics and one of the dullest narrative we've ever seen.

DarkStation: 7/10
Just Cause has always done, and still does, one thing very well, but it has long lost its novelty and desperately needs something - a reboot, a visual upgrade, a good story. Adding interface and systems complexity does nothing to make core experience more compelling or less familiar. Bugs and opaque mechanisms aside, fans who love the Just Cause games for their unadorned mayhem and destruction will find it once again, but it is hard to imagine anyone coming away excited for another sequel.

Vandal: 7/10

GameCrate: 6.3/10
An open world game needs to be engaging and exciting for dozens of hours, and JC4 doesn't manage that feat. It has amusing moments, but it isn't $60 worth of fun unless you really love the series. If you're interested in this game, I suggest you wait til it drops to $25 on sale. It's a nice distraction, but not much more than that.

Game Revolution: 9/10
But the game also lets you become Michael Bay by giving you total control over the chaos you can create on the screen. That may not be a flattering comparison in the cinematic world but for a game like Just Cause 4, it’s one of the highest compliments.

Digital Trend: 6/10

Softpedia: 7/10

Twinfinte: 7/10

GamingTrend: 8.5/10
Just Cause 4 is another solid entry in a franchise that continues to bring me hours of over-the-top, hilarious action. It doesn't do enough to evolve the franchise, and doesn't make enough use of the new weather effects, but the new tools available to Rico and the improvements in customization options is well-worth the price of entry.

EGM: 7/10
Just Cause 4 has so many good systems in place, but it seems to have lost sight of what to do with them. While it's a relatively decent game in its own right, it continues the series' decline.

COGConnected: 5.8/10

Hardcore Gamer: 6/10

Digital Chumps: 8/10
Just Cause 4 lives in the mystique of a simulation that is concurrently shattering apart and performing as designed. Agency and Chaos are rival gods condensed into a single protagonist who uses the world's most outrageous toolbox to violently and preposterously address its most rote objectives. Limitations are explosive fuel for superpowers, somehow balancing the equation that allows
Just Cause 4 to make sense.
